Where does Island Air fly?
Island Air is Hawaii's leading regional carrier, currently offering 92 daily departures between Honolulu and the islands of Moloka'i, Lana'i, Maui (Kapalua and Kahului), Kaua'i (Lihu'e) and the "Big Island" of Hawai'i (Kona and Hilo). Island Air serves more destinations in Hawai'i than any other airline and offers more non-stop service between neighbor island destinations than any other airline in the state. Island Air's two hubs are Honolulu and Kahului. Island Air is the only scheduled carrier serving Kapalua, Lana'i and Moloka'i.
What kind of planes does Island Air fly?
Island Air operates a fleet of ten 37-seat DASH-8 aircraft. These turboprop planes have earned a solid reputation for outstanding reliability and safety. The aircraft features all-leather seating, large overhead compartments, air conditioning, and comfortably pressurized cabins. They are ideal for high-frequency, short-haul routes that serve small community airports like those that Island Air serves.
Island Air is also adding two 74-seat Q400 jetprops to its fleet in 2006. This aircraft offers superior comfort with wide body two-by-two seating, a quiet and spacious cabin, generous baggage space, and near jet-like speed. The maximum cruise speed of 360 knots allows the aircraft to make inter-island trips in times comparable to those of jets such as the Boeing 717 and 737, yet is more environmentally friendly and economical to operate because it is a turboprop and has low fuel consumption.
